I was going to take a picture of the food, but when it arrived it looked so good I forgot. So I took pictures of the empty plates. My girlfriend said her club sandwich was one of the best she has ever had. They definitely did know how to fry bacon.
So we were in Atlantic City for 3 days and had breakfast here every morning. I forgot to take pictures each morning because it he food looked so good I was just in a hurry to eat it.
Just a heads up 2 of the 3 days there was a large line to get into the restaurant. The service was so good that they turned tables that we never wait more than 20 minutes.

I visited Gilchrist Restaurant with a group of four others, and the wait time was pretty long. This place definitely gets crowded, so be prepared to wait, especially during peak hours.
The surrounding area wasn’t the best. There were a lot of sketchy people going in and out, likely because there’s a public restroom right near the entrance, along with a few motels and a liquor store nearby. I understand it’s Atlantic City, but it still affected the overall experience.
As for the food, breakfast was decent, about a 5.5-6/10. It was a bit under-seasoned and could have used more flavor, but it wasn’t bad, just okay. I do wish they offered desserts like cake or pie, but they don’t.
The service, however, stood out in a positive way. Our server, a tall light-skinned young man with light eyes, was very friendly and provided great customer service, shout out to him. The manager was also personable and welcoming. The only downside on the service side was the woman who seated us, who could have been a bit more friendly and personable.
Overall, decent food and great service from our server, but the long wait time and surrounding environment are things to keep in mind.

Had a great breakfast at Gilchrist while visiting Atlantic City. We were seated quickly and our server was super sweet! The food came out fast and it was so delicious. I got the cream chipped beef over rye with home fries, eggs, and grits. Best breakfast I’ve had in a while eating out!! Will stop in every time I come to Atlantic City.

The food was mediocre. We specifically came here to try out the waffles and they were “out of waffle mix” disappointed but we tried the blue berry pancakes and they were flavorless. Staff was beyond friendly which was awesome but not enough to make up for lack of waffles at a breakfast joint. Price was reasonable.

Stop looking around for breakfast! This will be your goto spot if you’re willing to make the trip sense it’s at the far end of Tropicana on a local street.
I had previously assumed Coastal Craft at Harrahs was the best in the area until I came here.
First off the coffee was not like any other, less caffeine potent and very smooth/light taste. The eggs were done medium just as I like em, the bacon was crispy, the potatoes were toasty, and I’m not one for pancakes but hungryman comes with them so I got the Banana Pancakes and they were slamming. My girl loved her French toast as well with a side of bacon.
On top of our waitress being attentive, the entire staff was as well ensuring we were good every few mins. Everybody was on the same page working unison with 100% satisfaction guarantee.
I did not feel uncomfortable here at all. Felt just like any ordinary customer which I loved about the place being fact me and my girl are Hispanic and Black. They treat everyone the same here and for that if I can give more than 5 stars I would.
Last thing which is the icing on the cake is the price point, every other breakfast in the area the bill was no less than $60 but here I paid $28 (2 individuals) for amazing food, excellent service, chill atmosphere, and outstanding staff. If they doubled the price I wouldn’t even care, hopefully they don’t increase the price lol.
Def plan to come here again sometime soon when I revisit AC.

The food was excellent. The service was so notch. It was kind of tricky to find it inside the Tropicana but everything inside the Tropicana is tricky to find but once we got here, we got a table right away and everything was delicious. I would definitely come here again.

We assumed there was a reason this place was lined up each time we’d pass, with people willing to sit at the counter instead of waiting for a table…their food is JUST THAT GOOD! The line moved quickly, service was excellent, food -delicious! Known for their blueberry pancakes, which are a unique cross between a crepe and a pancake, and are served with a generous portion of whipped butter, they didn’t disappoint. Like a little piece of heaven on the end of your fork! The Italian omelette came highly recommended; it was excellent. So so so cheesy, with sausage, onions and green peppers. Ordered the home fries well done; they were good, as was the rye toast. It’s a diner style restaurant, nothing fancy but the food and attentive service made for a great experience. Note: only open for breakfast and lunch. One bill per table, pay at the counter. Accessible from the street or the Tropicana. Definitely a do over.

A group of 6 of us had brunch here yesterday, and wow, the pancakes were better than hype. The flavors are perfect, and we all learned how a crispy edge on a pancake makes it even better. Highly highly recommend.
And as a man in the lobby said, it was worth the wait for a table. The wait was almost an hour.

Local Staple | Great Food | Cheap Prices.
I’d come here for a reprieve from high priced and low quality tourist traps in the rest of AC. Pancakes are “the best you’ve ever had” and they’re only like $7. Can be a bit of a line so plan to wait 15 mins in the morning.

I recently had breakfast at Gilchrist inside Tropicana Atlantic City, and overall, it was a pleasant but mixed experience. The restaurant itself is very charming—bright, inviting, and has that “cute, local café” vibe despite being right in the middle of a busy casino resort. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable settling in for a casual meal before heading out to enjoy the rest of the day.
The staff were friendly and respectful throughout my visit, which helped make the experience feel warm and welcoming. Service was attentive enough without being overbearing, and the overall atmosphere was laid-back in a nice way.
As for the food, it was decent but not without flaws. I ordered eggs, and while they weren’t made exactly the way I requested, the rest of the breakfast was fine. The flavors were there, portions were fair, and nothing tasted off—it just wasn’t executed perfectly. It felt more like diner-style cooking than elevated breakfast, which can be either a plus or a minus depending on your expectations.
Price-wise, it seemed reasonable for being inside Tropicana, especially considering many resort restaurants tend to be on the higher side. Gilchrist feels like a nice little escape where you can grab a straightforward meal without breaking the bank.
All in all, Gilchrist at Tropicana is a cute and reliable breakfast spot with friendly service. While the food could use a little more attention to detail, it’s still worth stopping by for a casual and comfortable start to the day.
